10 Sunuş / Preface CURRENT ART PROJECT COMPETITION EXHIBITIONS IN THEIR THIRD YEAR While the “Contemporary Art Practices” have been rapidly developing and expanding their place in the Turkish art market and museums in the last thirty years, the stance of official and private institutions varied in this situation. The changing paradigm of art naturally has begun to create an impact on new suggestions and proposals in the field of art, including the art market. In this panorama, two different attitudes and actors can be mentioned. The first group consists of the private sector, as well as the way of relationship established by the private sector with new dynamics of art. The second group is comprised of the official institutions and their attitude towards this paradigm. As a result of the development of a democratic and free field of production in this process, the young and exciting “current practices” have become more visible. Firstly, the private sector actually “bought” these dynamics and the new paradigm -- though without fully understanding them -- as it did in all areas. For many years, the official institutions and organizations have opted to remain distant from this risky area, which falls outside the modernist paradigm. Nevertheless, this situation was contrary to the dynamics of life and also problematic. The new position of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was realized by identifying the new situation caused by a vital need in this process and by enriching these problems-deadlocks, which could not be responded through the State Exhibitions and similar events, with new instruments and by producing solutions.
